MIAMI, Fla. — Josh Williams, known professionally as J Will View, earned recognition at Miami’s Urban Film Festival following the screening of his mini-documentary, “REBIRTH: The Reinvention of Luc Stephen.” The filmmaker celebrated on the red carpet with a golden trophy after bringing his story of resilience and personal transformation to the festival’s independent film audience.

A Miami Film Festival Moment
The Urban Film Festival returned for its 11th year September 4–6, with nearly 200 independent films screening across Historic Overtown and Downtown Miami.
Presented by Florida Film House International and founded by Marco “Mall” Molinet, the free, three-day festival brought together screenings, master classes, panels, and networking events. Its programming connected independent filmmakers with audiences and industry professionals while reducing the barriers that can keep emerging voices outside traditional film spaces.
For Williams, the event provided a platform for a film built around one man’s decision to change his direction.

Inside “REBIRTH”
Williams directed, shot, and edited the 17-minute documentary, which follows Luc Stephen’s journey from the streets of New York to a life as an independent filmmaker and producer.
“REBIRTH: The Reinvention of Luc Stephen” centers on reinvention, resilience, and the determination to keep building after setbacks. Rather than focusing only on Stephen’s accomplishments, the documentary explores the personal transformation behind his work.
The film screened at Silverspot Cinema as part of the festival’s official lineup, drawing a strong audience response.
The Story Behind J Will View
Through his company, J. Will View, Williams approaches filmmaking by identifying why a story matters before the camera rolls.
His work emphasizes legacy-focused storytelling: documenting the experiences, decisions, and turning points that shape individuals and brands. The aim is to capture a meaningful journey rather than produce surface-level content.
“REBIRTH” reflects that approach, placing Stephen’s transformation at the center of a concise, personal documentary.

A Platform for Independent Voices
The Urban Film Festival’s programming extends beyond awards and red-carpet appearances. Youth programs, skill-building workshops, and public screenings support creators developing their craft and finding their audiences.
Williams’ recognition reflects that independent filmmaking model: identify a story worth telling, carry it through production, and bring it to a community prepared to engage with it.
At Miami’s Urban Film Festival, that journey brought both “REBIRTH” and the filmmaker behind it into the spotlight.
