Detroit Public Library and DMJStudio’s Grand Gesture 2026 turns the Main Library Galleria into a statement on scale—bringing together large-format paintings, photographs, and mixed-media work by 39 Detroit-area artists.
Presented by Detroit-based creative studio DMJStudio, Grand Gesture 2026 is now on view at the Detroit Public Library’s Main Library Galleria. The group exhibition examines how size changes the experience of art: bold color, layered surfaces, immersive compositions, and works that ask visitors to slow down, look closely, and consider the physical presence of an image in a shared public space. The exhibition follows the success of last year’s presentation and underscores the Detroit Public Library’s continuing role as a civic venue for accessible cultural programming. Rather than placing contemporary art outside everyday life, the Galleria brings it into one of the city’s most public and democratic spaces—where art, learning, and community encounter one another.
